A blog is a personal online diary or journal that is frequently updated. It is a place where the individual can share their passions, insight and previously acquired knowledge. Essentially, it is a personal website that can be shared internationally with those who wished to read and respond. There are millions of individuals, or bloggers, that participate in these sites on a daily basis, with a wide variety of purposes and subject matter (Byrd, n.d.).

There are some advantages to blogging. A blogger, who has been able to create and maintain a blog site as their main source of income, can potentially use blogging to replace the nine to five job. Blogging is also an excellent source of networking opportunities on an international level. Blogging also provides a medium through which the individual is able to freely express their thought and knowledge, while recipients are able to respond and potentially provide further knowledge. Some disadvantages to blogging regard, first, the potential for liabilities. As this forum tends to be free form, there is always the potential for liabilities in many forms. It has also been discovered that it is also difficult for moderators to enforce policies that have been put in place regarding what is said and how. Marketing blogging efforts can be difficult, especially for  interorganizational communication. Leaders cannot force consituents to participate in blogging, therefore many ideas and concepts can be lost or even ignored (Benjamin, n.d.).
